There is no need for that mall and especially for it to waste that location. It should be leveled and a quality, smart expansive mixed use development should go in there. I would also remove the ballparks. What a waste a to have such land next to an interstate. They should be built somewhere else of course, but Pgh has limitations due to topography etc and those two things are a not good use for that space.

how is that not an ideal location? i would think ACCESS is key (witness robinson township). it certainly has that.

this is very interesting (the mine subsidence, etc.) we've already forgotten the bagpipes for K-mart, though.

There is no need for a mall there. Retail that makes sense for that location would much better utilize the location, along with offices and apartments etc.

I don't know that there'd be much call for apartments that close to the highway just because of the noise.

Parkway Center shouldn't try to be Settler's Ridge. An improved Giant Eagle would be good, and some dining options, too, but I bet a Gabe's or a Burlington Coat Factory or a Value City Furniture would do well there.

I just think the location itself will be a little challenging to market considering that the power that is Robinson takes some of the draw away from Parkway Center. It can be redeveloped but it will have to be developed into more of a neighborhood-oriented commercial center than one intended to compete with Robinson or any nearby retail development.

It's not that close to the parkway regarding noise and apartments are relatively sound proof from that particular distance and yes a location close to the parkway is desirable. We're not talking mere feet away so that cars sound like trains.

My point is that it shouldn't be a retail center like it was and be more mixed use. It's a great location with a lot of land... being wasted.

It is built over a landfill. See section on the mall:

I'd disagree and I'd say next to major highways is an especially ideal location for major retail malls.

The Robison and North Fayette shopping centers are also right adjacent to the interstate and do pretty well.

Its a lot better to have business facilities as opposed to residents who would be more likely to complain about the noise.
