yeah the bbc version is much better. they're both kind of silly, formulaic, and gimmicky, but the u.s. version is much more so. and the weird dramatic voiceover guy instead of ramsey doing the voiceovers is hokey.

still, i enjoy both versions and i'm psyched to see familiar people and places on the show tonight (which by the way is on the FOX network, channel 53 in the pittsburgh area, check local listings).

i haven't been there, but i only ever heard good things about the place before this. in the article i posted at the beginning of the thread, the author talks about going there on the reopening night for the show, and more recently.

a friend of mine works at the hotel where the people from the show stayed, and one of them told him that they pick restaurants more based on whether there is a place to set up all their tents and trailers and equipment (there's a parking lot right next to miss jean's) than on the plight of the owner or the quality of the food.

although there must have been some financial problems cause i believe that space is now for rent, so if someone buying the building was the issue, it seems like it's because they increased the rent and miss jean couldn't afford it. i don't know why someone who wants to rent the space out would get rid of a paying tenant for no reason.

i saw a bunch of people i recognize, kinda cool!

one thing i'm glad about is besides the flies (ew), the kitchen must not have been that gross. gordon ramsey LOVES going around yelling "you're gonna kill someone!!" and deeply smelling disgusting rotted stuff, so if he didn't do it in this episode, it probably wasn't there.

yes, i had read the article before coming to c-d to ask and was a little confused because she said the building was sold in the spring which must have been right after taping since that was june 3 and spring ends june 21.

the hotel he was staying at looked liked the william penn to me (but i could be wrong). i say that cause the balcony where they were sitting looked like where the pittsburgh club was located. my dad's retirement job was as bartender there and i have fond memories of the harp and crown restaurant that was off the lobby back in the late 50s.

wonder if she has kept up gordon's suggestions and how the new location looks.

yeah it was the william penn.

they did move out of their location pretty soon after the show taped - i think it was july or august at the latest.

i have a feeling it's back to looking like a prison cafeteria but who knows, maybe they kept the tables at least. i have a special diet and don't eat most if not all of what they serve, so i doubt i will be going any time soon!
