Um, that is NOT how the restaurants business works. Plenty of places that open and stay open for many decades with a good owner. Also, what about Superior Motors? There has been a bunch of organizations that DONATED money towards it. Fundraising and more. Is he going to open and close that one as well?

When will the new project where Yen's Chinese Restaurant is (across from Target) be breaking ground?

is this a snarky comment or a real question? Have you seen the Mosites TOD plan for the east busway?

He was the chef and basically built up Yo Rita without ownership. That's still open.

He was the chef and partner of Salt. He sold his ownership stake to his partners. That's still open.

He was the chef and I'm not sure of anything else at Alchemy. That closed about 7 or 8 years ago.

Station Street is by far the worst location in all of East Liberty. He made it work, but it probably wasn't profitable enough to keep running - especially with all of the work he's doing with his braddock project. Additionally, he's a father and sometimes you just have to step back and work less.

There seems to be a pattern of restaurants closing that offered more expensive "gourmet" versions of historically cheap food. Thus far in this thread we have mentioned hotdog, cupcake, and taco places closing. Are there any others?

Yo Rita did not close due to a lack of business. I heard it had much more to the owner just calling it quits one day for reasons no one understood.

Article in the Pittsburgh Business Times basically says it was due to concentrating on Superior Motors...

Cupcakes were a trend due to Sex in the City. Then it was macarons. Then cronuts. Not sure what is current, in the sweet cycle.
