Hello everyone,

My family and I are relocating to to the greater Pittsburgh area after retiring from the Army. We have been looking at some homes to buy in the Carnegie township and would appreciate any information you could provide about the area.

To be more specific, we have been looking at homes around Beechwood Ave area. What are the neighborhoods in this are like and are they kid friendly? I have been searching for information on the web and all I have been able to find out is WalkScore gives it a score of 66-77 and Hall of Famer Honus Wagner's home is there.

Thanks,

Sam

2 things that you need to be concerned about up there are #1- the proximity of Carnegie Towers at 820 Capitol Drive which is at one end of Beechwood. Carnegie Towers is the Chartiers valley's answer to the projects and the possibility of spillover trouble is definitely there. #2 The school situation is in flux. Carlynton School District is one of the smallest in Allegheny County, and could likely merge with one of the adjacent districts. Until that sorts itself out, its just a guess as to where young children are going to be finishing their educations at.

As far as points of positivity, they have really renovated the Andrew Carnegie Library building up there during the last 30 years and Beechwood is a short jaunt to grocery and other shopping in downtown Carnegie, 10 minutes to the West Busway for public transport to town and the airport and Carnegie has easy access to I376 and I79

Why not? It's a prime location being where 376 and 79 intersect. It's one of the areas I have looked at places in..very easy commute to downtown from Carnegie but also close to the airport area and Southpointe as well.

I just bought a house in Crafton, not far from Carnegie. My realtor lives in Carnegie and works out of the South Hills Coldwell Banker office in Upper St. Clair. He has been working in the area for 35 years. He could give you lots of info on the local housing market. I was quite pleased with his services, especially since I live in CA (I will be moving into the house at the end of Jan) and had to handle much of the buying process from across the country.

Just avoid Carnegie Towers and the other seedy apartments scattered around the neighborhood, and safety-wise you should be fine...

We are open to suggestions, just trying to stay close to my brother who lives in Presto. We have a 4 and 5 year old and want to be close to some parks.
