I don't know, I had a '76 Nova that was a tank (and I didn't maintain it properly but it ran forever)

I think a rear wheel drive car will go better and be safer then front wheel, just load the trunk up with about 200 lbs and have decent tires..

Don't forget to put it in neutral when stopping!

I've been driving in Pittsburgh for over 40 years, best car I ever had for snow driving was my 66 Bonneville with posi traction. I climbed that hill in front of Connelly trade school on Bedford ave during the great storm of 77. I was one of the few students at class that day...

The old Corvairs and VWs were great in the snow, with there rear engines...

Anybody remember saw dust snow tires lol, they worked well!

JC Whitney has tire chains for just about any car. They have emergency cables you can put on and traction cables. These are for aroud $40. You throw them in the trunk for an emergency.

Also, a good trick. Drop the air pressure in your tires. Increases the contact patch giving you better traction to go and stop. Most cars run with 35 psi, and you can go a lot lower. If you are only going a few miles an hour you will be fine. Fill them up once you are home and safe.

But they could go anywhere in the snow because they were HEAVY.

Oh, and they could FLY because they had V8 engines. Heavy tanks that flew, that's what they were.

Super safe too. I rear ended a car while I was going 50mph and only cracked the front grill. The same wreck would total today's cars.

Never have been a fan of fwd. Once you start to slide/spin out you lose traction and steering. Atleast with rwd there seems to be a better feel as it's much easier to turn into the slide and straighten out.

One problem with rear wheel drive is that once you actually are stuck, it's a lot harder to get free again. With front wheel drive at least you can turn and wiggle the wheels that are actually getting power and hope for some bit of traction.

That's the whole POINT. You WANT the car to crumple up and absorb the impact so the people inside don't. Cars are just THINGS. It's their occupants that are important.
