Hello,

I am moving my family (me, wife and son) to the Pittsburgh region and we are looking for a nice and safe area. We have heard great things about Squirrel hill and Shadyside, but we are more suburban-type people. We are both in our 30's.
Here's a quick list of preferences:

Under 25 minute commute to Duquesne University main campus
Free standing house > town/row house > duplex > ranch apartment
3 bedroom > large 2 bedroom, rent max is $1650/month
Nearby shopping and dining is a plus, but not necessary
Good school district a plus

Thanks for your help.

Try Homewood, The Hill District, or Wilikinsburg

You might want to look into North Baldwin.

The Baldwin Whitehall School District is above average and North Baldwin is very close to the Birmingham Bridge and you can reache Duquesne University pretty close from there. Mostly post war, there has been new construction up there in recent years.

There is a Shop n Save store in North Baldwin and its close to shopping in the Southside and the Homestead waterfront.

Why would you give a smart assed response like that?!?!?! They aren't suburbs. They aren't nice, safe areas. They don't have good schools.

Do you have a problem with people wanting those things?!?!?! I can't imagine why else you would post what you did.

Based on what you say, Mount Lebanon is probably going to be what a match to what you want, but it will be hard to find something for that price. I don't like the Liberty Tubes, but if you're at a university, you may not have a straight 9-5 and the commute will be better if you are outside rush hour. Plus, if you took the train, you could save money on the commute.

Ross Township would be in their budget.

It's a safe suburban area, close to shopping and restaurants, in a good school district, just minutes away from downtown.

Try changing that search to "Ross Twp" or "Ross Township" - "Ross" returns all sorts of stuff that these people might not want to live in or near.
