It was the pepperoni roll that originated as a coal miner's lunch.

Huge portions is what defines Pittsburgh cuisine. Primanti's serves a large sandwich, the Oyster House downtown at least did (Pres. Carter was impressed with its size during his campaign stop here), Del Kid's had the legendary 6 egg omelets, successful Pittsburgh restauranteers know not to skimp on the size of meals here.

This was in NJ, btw. Neither kielbasa nor pierogies are a Pittsburgh exclusive.

What is this exactly?

I would have thought more - it's depressing to visit there (and the places are packed!!!) - pretty sad when you go to Holiday Inn and there's a gambling joint in the main area!

That's really more of an American thing.

Eh, I'm sure that happens, as demonstrated on this thread. But I'd swear what happens more is people in Pittsburgh thinking that some of the things that really do only happen here are commonplace. Although, that type of thinking is not exactly unique to Pittsburgh either.

Oh! I know a Pittsburgh "cuisine" that I don't think I saw on here yet: the cookie table at a wedding. I'm sure someone will tell me it didn't originate here. I can't remember the origins actually.

A menu for kids served a six-egg omelet? Or is Del Kid's something other than the Kids' Menu at Del's?

Good point. Remember Armstrong's, biggest salad/sandwiches ever.
