I hope you're being sarcastic.

If not, I feel bad for you.

Perhaps my time in Wisconsin and Boston has desensitized me to such things, but I don't perceive "Steelers culture" as being opressive or in-your-face at all. There's plenty of media coverage of the Steelers, of course, but short of traffic on game day, it isn't something that is particularly difficult to avoid for me. Perhaps it's different if you're in a workplace full of zealous fans, but my approach to such things is to go along to get along. Life is too short to get hung up on things that are beyond my control and are, in the end, harmless.

I encountered a worker's cubicle once that has all vertical surfaces covered in black-and-gold paraphernalia. It was in Memphis.

Very well said. I personally don't like football after seeing the way football players were exalted onto pedestals at my high school, but I do like how most here in Pittsburgh can turn a metro area of 2.5 million into a community as they all rally behind the black and gold. The royal "we" as in "Are we winning?" or "Did we score a touchdown yet?" creates an atmosphere that the entire region is in something together, and I like that. I remember when neighbors in rowhomes across the street were banging pots and pans out their windows when the Steelers won a game a couple of years ago that secured their entry into the Super Bowl. I've fallen in love with Pittsburgh simply because it's a chic and cosmopolitan city that still feels very cozy and intimate. The Steelers obsession here helps many to find common bonds with one another, and that's fine by me.
