I've driven down West Carson St. past several weekends on Saturday and Sunday- long lines of folks that look like tourists waiting to go up Mt. Washington.

No fireworks or regatta going on, but these funicular rides seem to be getting quite a following.

Not that many years ago, the inclines were a convenient public conveyance for those on Carson wanting to go to Grandview and vice versa. Now, it seems to have transformed into a real tourist trap.

What's the question? People like to go up the inclines (which aren't a common conveyance,) walk around the overlooks, take some pictures, get an ice cream cone or a sandwich, then go back down. It's not really rocket surgery.

The cars hold like 30 passengers, and the ride is like 5 minutes. Maybe the ice cream store on Boggs and Wyoming is doing a great business, but this is a lot of customers

Long lines, I would think, would be the exception.

I was speaking to the sister in law this afternoon, when she was a teenager on Mt. Wash, she used the incline for her trip to her job in Station Square.

It was quick and easy weekends, evenings, whenever.

Maybe they need more incline cars in service if there is this much demand.

Exactly. It is still fun to take a ride up grab a few beers with an enjoyable view. One of the best views of any city anywhere. Why wouldn't people go up there? It is called fun.

I live really close to the mon incline and must say the level of tourist traffic up here has been vastly greater this summer than years past. Even week nights have been packed at the overlooks and shiloh street businesses seem to be booming.

Their a pretty cool old but still functional form of transportation that people like & it helps that the end is a pretty cool view. They are very popular for tourists in every city I've been to that has a similar thing.

Pittsburgh had many inclines back in the day besides the two that survive now. It's a shame that they're gone as they would have drastically increased the walkability of many neighborhood connections. At least we still have many of our staircases.

One car goes up and down the same track. They'd have to add more tracks to add more cars.
