I'd appreciate some help narrowing down some neighborhoods I might look for a condo in Pittsburgh because I don't know the city at all. I'm looking for something extremely walkable for shopping, restaurants, etc. but still residential in feeling and low-rise. Also safe and near transit lines. Thanks for any suggestions.

Oakland and Shadyside have lots of condos and are walkable or busable to shopping and restaurants. Look for zip codes 15213 and 15232.

Don't rule out The Strip....close to Downtown...the best specialty shops for food..kind of gritty currently but safe....has a ton of unrealized potential...underrated place to live..Will be highly coveted place to live in a few years.

The Heinz lofts on the North Side seem nice (for rental), and there are a few more around that area.

I think I would look in Shadyside. Years ago we rented one in a condo building that was made when two houses were joined together. Shadyside is very walkable. It also appears much nicer (not as gritty looking) than Lawrenceville or the South Side. Squirrel Hill just doesn't have as many condos as Shadyside.

Shadyside, The Strip District, Lawrenceville and Oakland all have great qualities. Seems like you'll be doing a ton of research anyway, but Oakland and Lawrenceville can vary quite a bit depending on what section of the neighborhood you are looking at so be careful. Just a jumping off point. Good luck in your hunt.
