Hi,

I moved to Pittsburgh about 5 years ago from FLAT land. I love the city and have done tons of things in the city, but I'm looking for ideas for some daytrips or just fun roads/views to see in the area.

I've driven out US 40 to the Scenic Overlook just past Uniontown, I've been down US 22 into the Laurel Highlands into Altoona, taken US 30 into Ligoneer and taken 271 into Johnstown (did the Incline there, awesome). I've seen the Castle/House in Peters Twp...

I've also driven to Spruce Knob in WV - amazing!

I've heard Ohiopyle has some cool overlooks. Any other ideas?

What is this Castle House that you speak of?

Do a bing/google map search for 144 Justabout Rd - Helipad,Golf Hole, for comparison sake the house next door (to the west) is on the market for $3.4M. Insane...

The terracing on the house/castle is ridiculous when viewed in real life...

Lawrence County has a large Old Order Amish community adjacent to Volant which is a tourist attraction as well.

All of this is close to the Grove City outlets which is right on I-79, so it is an easy trip.

Probably the most internationally recognized attraction in the area is Fallingwater, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in Ohiopyle. I should be ashamed - lived here 30 years and haven't been there yet.

The Amish community around New Wilmington and Volant is nice. Not touristy like Lancaster County. Erie is doable in a day, as is Cleveland, which has some nice attractions.

That house out in Peters is nuts. I remember driving past it when it was still under construction. I also heard it has a safe room. Why not, I guess.

Anyway, another vote for Volant/New Wilmington here. It's such a nice thing to do on a Saturday. And like others have said it really isn't that far from Grove City or even McConnells Mill if you wanted to combine it with some shopping or a hike.

If you do go to Volant I highly recommend eating at Rachel's Roadhouse on Route 19. The food there is so good. One of the best rueben's I've ever had!
