My source says Denver 87 which sounds more accurate.
Average Annual Precipitation by City in the US - Current Results

All the Native Americans were living basically as hunters/gatherers or primitive farmers at the time the Europeans arrived.
Kat, I was taking the base "precipitation day" amounts (which don't distinguish snow) and subtracting the average number of snowy days to get my "net rainy day counts."

For instance, while PGH has 151.2 precipitation days, 39.4 of those days are snowy, leaving a net count of 111.8. Philadelphia is 118.2/12.2, giving a net count of 106.0. When you take snow out of the equation, the counts are much closer.

And Denver is indeed 46.4 using the 1981-2010 normals (79.7-33.3).

^^OK, but I'm not sure that matters. Most people don't view falling snow as a good thing unless they're home by the fireplace.

It does matter, because complaining about rain and complaining about snow are two very different things. While most people aren't too fond of huge storms, an inch of fresh powder will often be seen as scenic and delightful, whereas 0.2" of rain will usually be tolerated at best.

You should see it out here when it snows, especially at rush hour, which seems to be a favorite time for the skies to unload. And haven't I heard that the media in Pittsburgh go off the wall, and everyone rushes out to buy toilet paper when it snows?

Toilet paper is necessary for civilized society. It's what separates us from animals. Pittsburghers understand this.

Still two different kinds of complaints. Snow is usually either seen as positive or severely negative. Rain is usually met with grumbles, but severe flooding/other rain-based disasters are nowhere near as common as major snowstorms in most places.

There are "rain" threads and "snow" threads, along with no shortage of "cloudy" threads. There's a reason these three things are usually ranted about separately.

Either way, rain-based complaints about Pittsburgh are off-base relative to other nearby major cities. Snow is a toss-up; PGH is snowier than Philly and NYC, but about on par with Boston and nowhere near as terrible as Buffalo or Cleveland. Cloud cover is still quite up there.
