After living in Pittsburgh for 10 years I finally found myself in Morningside this evening and what a surprise. Our run group met at Bulldog Pub and took off for a run up Morningside Avenue and around some other parts of the East End.

I have to say Morningside is full of some great housing, and two thumbs up of for the Bulldog Pub. A great little neighborhood bar with great staff and pretty good food. It was pretty far out of my way to get there from Brookline, but def worth the trip. If one wanted to live in the East End and didn’t really care for a bustling business district I would def recommend that area.

I've also personally really loved Morningside. The housing has now risen meteorically beyond my grasp, but if you are looking for a safe East End neighborhood with a small town vibe, it's a great fit. It's also ideal for we runners---flat, sidewalks, four-way stop signs everywhere, and a Rite-Aid if you needed to drop in quick to pick up some Gatorade or something.

The Rite Aid was a little too suburban of a vibe for me, but the housing stock was really nice. Parking was of course a pain, and they could def benefit from some pull-in parking. All joking aside, it is a great little enclave in the East End.

Anyone have a recent status of Heth's Run bridge reconstruction on Butler Street lately? I haven't been around lately to see the progress.

It has been about 3 weeks since I've been there. It was still under construction, but it didn't hinder traffic since they created an alternate road through the zoo parking lot.

I think that was genious. The temporary road works better than the original. I take that route often. I go to stanton heights up through the back of morningside. Traffic flows so good that you dont have a chance to view the progress. This weekend I will stop at the gas station and take the time to look at the progress. It is a total reconstruction that will eventually involve the reconstruction of the Highland Park bridge ramps.

Morningside is definitely a gem. Sometimes we drive through it on our way for ice cream in the summer. Cute houses, front porches, kids playing in the yards and riding bikes. Reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in decades ago.

Is it still a smoking bar full of TV's, or is it now nonsmoking full of TV's?

It is non-smokijng with a sign says that if you step outside to smoke you have to go all the way around the side of the building. I do believe there were two small TVs but nothing really in your face about the televisions.
