what do yinz think?
If, and that's a big if, a fare hike was appropriate, why wouldn't you use it to run more buses on the standing room only lines instead of sending them to the lesser used routes?

Our transportation funding is messed up in this state. If Pittsburgh and Allegheny county was able to keep it's tax money local, there wouldn't be so many major issues with our roads, bridges, and transit.

I don't understand why they cut entire routes in the suburbs. There is nothing on Middle Road now. Those buses were full at rush hour. It wasn't like they weren't being used. They should have kept the routes and the cut midday runs. Then anti-car people want to raise parking rates when THERE IS NO BUS.

But their solution is for suburban people to move to the city, a place where they don't want to be. The absence of public transit in the suburbs is something they have no sympathy for. I really think some people wouldn't mind a Mega-City One type of environment.

If you don't fit into their realm of acceptance (city dwelling, transit taking, tax loving, bicyclist adoring, food fad worshipping, diversity shouting etc.) you will be chastised. Once again, different strokes for different folks does not apply.

Hey, I hate far right conservatives too.

But in a world without balance, if you hate one side that means you're a card carrying member of the other site amirite?

It generally wears off by age thirty, ATC. The problem is that there is a limitless supply of people in their twenties who think the problem with the rest of us is we've never thought about the problem they're pontificating on.

Haha yeah. I'm pretty liberal but I know that what might work for person A may not work for person B.

But on topic, the legalization and taxation of marijuana in this state would help pay for the pension conundrum so that better service could be provided. In Colorado $10 million in taxes have been collected in 4 months and $40 million total will go directly towards infrastructure and schools. This would be a relatively easy first step in curing the ever growing transit issue without raising fares to be the highest price in the United States.

Granted this is the same state that has 19th century alcohol laws and this would likely never go over in our lifetime.

no one was riding them. of course, perhaps the right approach was to raise parking rates at least to market levels rather than cut service but PAT doesn't control parking and rarely does any region have a coherent approach to transportation. PAT found that lightly used suburban routes cost more money so, when push came to shove, they had to be cut. how is charging market rate for parking anti-car? and even if there is a little anti-car, a little is necessary to offset the decades of procar at any cost extremism.
