My son just graduated from Pitt with his engineering degree, he wants to stay in Pittsburgh if he can find full time employment in the next two month, his student rental lease is up mid August, can anybody recommend any rentals in safe, clean areas, for a young professional just starting out, at reasonable rates, including parking?

Sharpsburg, Etna, Millvale and Indianola come to mind. Just rent somewhere for a year and when you know how work is going, go from there.

Your boy should wait to see where his job will be before he commits to an apartment.

A lot of engineering firms and industrial concerns are in the suburbs. Committing to an apartment in Robinson might become a real problem if he is offered a job in Monroeville or the Mon Valley.

depends on the lifestyle he likes and budget. 1 bedroom apartments are much more than it will cost to rent a 2 or 3 bedroom with some room mates.

I don't think he'll need roommates as even a starting engineer. My nephew just graduated from a state school and is earning 60k, plenty enough to have one's own apartment in moderately priced areas like Pittsburgh.

really depends on what you want. 60k is a fine salary, but after you pay taxes, contribute to an ira, pay for a car, insurance, etc. Renting a nice 1 bedroom apartment in a nice area can become quite the toll. and if you have student loans, that takes its toll as well. even halfway nice 1 bedrooms in most decent areas are 700+ before utilities. with all bills ( assuming cable/internet.) you are looking at 1k a month.

He can easily live on his own on 60k. He'll be netting over 3.6k month. People raise children on less than that.

$1k off $60k is reasonable for most people.

yes, but we do not know the op sons salary. 60k was someone elses nephew. I know engineers who started out at a good bit less than that in the recent past.
