Ugh...you can never win with some people. Renowned international firm gets the job, people are up in arms because it is not local. Local firm delivers mundane design, people are up in arms because they didn't try harder to create something special.

People like Marimba Milliones and Carl Redwood have proven themselves to be borderline racist obstructionists throughout this entire process. If Ms. Milliones or Mr. Redwood could show me an African-American architect from the Hill District who possesses a comparable prowess to the selected Scandinavian firm, then perhaps we should reconsider. Until that time I refuse to accept that we need to give a priority to people who are lesser-qualified just because they happen to be "local". Do we want what is happening on the North Shore to happen in the Hill District?

Why is it so hard for anyone to just tell the obstructionists to go fly a kite

Does anyone know how much parking will be incorporated to the civic arena area when done? A prett significant amount of people currently park there.

IIRC, the number of spaces available to the public is set to drop. There will be no public lots ultimately. There will be on-street parking in some places of course, along with surface spaces for townhouses, and quasi-underground "platform" parking for the apartment buildings. There will be 1-2 dedicated garages, but a goodly portion of the people using them will be workers in new commercial buildings or hotel guests.

They should force US steel to put all the planned parking for the entire site, in a garage that forms the base of their crap building. It might actually improve the appearance.

I don't think you can "force" them, afterall the city made a big bid to keep US Steel here. The steel firm was looking at North Fayette as well, which would force them to do anything of the sort.

Unless you want them all to take apartments in Polish Hill and the East End during the week, and just go back home to Franklin Park or West Deer on the weekends?

What do you think that would do to the price of rent in the livable sections of peninsular Pittsburgh?
