The good news. Lines have indeed been painted for one of the new parking lots.

Tell me again why we gave that land to a sports team to redevelop?

Looks like the ongoing Hill District debate for concessions is causing the delay, though I'm sure the Pens are all too happy to use it to their advantage.

You guys do realize that the city is responsible to do all the infrastructure work for the site. The city said it would take 5-7 years to get the infrastructure work done. Also, the city has no money to do the work, and would have to try to secure state, and federal funds for the work (funds that are very hard to come by these days). And the last time that I heard, there was no interest from anyone to build out the site.

From the article.

Quote:
Mr. Williams said the original deadline was established in a vacuum without the context of the Hill negotiations or what was involved in getting the infrastructure in place.
If you feel the need to blame someone, blame the city.

Can't we blame both the city and the Penguins?

What do you blame the Penguins for, not forcing someone to take an undeveloped site?

I haven't heard of anyone being interested in this site. That will change once the site is closer to shovel ready, and there are enough tax breaks offered, but that is likely years away.

I thought the funding for the infrastructure was recently approved and allocated?

It was part of a very complex deal involving not just the city, but the Sports and Exhibitions Authority, the hockey team and community involvement.

The deal that was reached dictates percentages of participation in the program for minorities and community members in addition to setting up set asides for residences for lower income households.

Its going to be a difficult recipe to really develop something with all of the specifications lined up

If the SEA would have just auctioned the property to the highest bidder, we'd probably have expensive houses and apartments, as well as boutiques, snooty eateries and coffee joints where people drink their lattes with their pinkies extended already built on the site.

But that wasn't really acceptable to the parties, they are going for a plan B.

That may be, but I haven't heard that. Do you have a source?
