My husband will be taking a job in Morgantown but we would like to live as close to Pittsburgh PA as possible without a terribly long commute for him. What towns would you suggest? Ideally about 45 minutes from Morgantown. We have a 7 month old and I will be working from home but would like convenient access to shops, grocery stores, etc. Could care less about nightlife. Thanks!

I'm not sure of the length of the commute, but Peters Township in Washington County is very up and coming. The towns of McMurray and Venetia are very popular.

Canonsburg might not be a bad choice, either. All of the fluff from Peters Township is spilling into neighboring Canonsburg. It's less expensive but has some beautiful property, as well. Peter's and Canonsburg are closer to the Pittsburgh side and aren't quite middle, but I think you may prefer that.

I'd investigate further before I chose Cannonsburg or McMurray. That's a rough commute. It's an hour give or take up I-79 in perfect traffic. Assuming he works a job whose hours are anything typical, it might take up to 30-45 minutes to get from his job site to the interstate during rush hour depending on what part of town he works in and what time of year it is. Morgantown traffic is atrocious for the relatively small place it is. I'd take that into consideration, too.

Uniontown
How about Uniontown in Fayette County? There has been some progress in renovating the downtown area, and there are other shopping and dining areas further out. I love some of those big homes north of Route 40/Mall area. If I'm not mistaken, it's about 40 minutes to Morgantown, and a little over an hour to Pittsburgh.

I worked at a Pharmaceutical company in Morgantown for four years and lived in Washington, PA at the time. East Washington is a nice section of Washington and right by the interstate. My commute was about 40 - 50 minutes to the MoTown exit. Depending on traffic that area is about 30 - 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. To give you a comparison, Canonsburg is about 10 minutes north of Washington (closer to Pittsburgh) ... so either would work depending on your desire to be closer to Morgantown or Pittsburgh.
