I am looking for the best deal possible for a moving truck to move my stuff. I am only moving 4 miles away in the Pittsburgh area. I am moving from a studio apartment to another studio apartment. Therefore I really don't have a lot of stuff to move (just 5 pieces of furniture and boxes with my stuff packed).

Two Men and a Truck would cost around $400 on a week day or $600 on a weekend. For only 4 miles and a studio apt, I was hoping for a cheaper move.

Anyone know a reputable place for a lower rate that also handles the move with care?

You could rent a truck on your own and hire help only. If you reserve a Uhaul (around $30-$50) they will give you links to local moving help (with reviews), with rates usually around $150 for a 2 man crew for a 2 hour move, with $50-$75 each addtional hour. 2 hours should be plenty for your move.

Just renting a truck alone is going to run you about $100. Maybe get some friends and pay with pizza and beer?

Renting a van form U-Haul is the cheapest option. $20 base rental, about a buck a mile, plus a couple gallons gas. Even with fees, taxes, and insurance you're probably looking at like $60.

A Uhaul would be the best bet. I made a similar move last july. only $50. ($20 rental plus milage + gas refill)

The U-Haul on Liberty Avenue in the Strip District maintains a list of people who will do the driving and moving for you.

Are you licensed? They have vans and pick ups that still can hold a lot of stuff but aren't as intimidating to drive as a big box truck. They aren't as big and you can see out the back and sides.

Two guys and a truck is a franchise, they are a top priced mover. Call a local mover you will pay alot less for their overhead. I always recommend James moving but there are alot of others out there.

400 seems reasonable to me to hire a company to come drive a big truck, pay for overhead, gas, labor, insurance, etc. How much less could it really be?

If you find some random guy to do it, he wont be insured and when he breaks something, good luck on getting it repaired or replaced.
