1.8 billion dollars for one stadium is insane. If Pittsburgh lost the Pirates and Steelers the Northshore as we know it would not exist. The Northshore connector would not have been built either. The fed paid for most the the NSC construction and this money could have went to Columbus or Raleigh. The riverfront park and infrastructure improvements made the investment well worth it. If PNC Park or Heinz field were placed in Washington or Robinson I would probably agree with you.

Still don't see anything in regards to da 'burgh.

The steel may be a memory but sports, City of Champions, and City of Black and Gold is what da 'burg has always and will always been/be known for.

"Even the Super Bowl, which the NFL has used recently as a carrot to convince cities to build new stadiums, has come with a price tag rather than a profit. Indianapolis, which hosted the nation’s most-watched sporting event in February at Lucas Oil Stadium, had expected to spend $450,000 more on the game than it made in revenue, mostly because of public safety expenses. The city revealed earlier this month that figure was closer to $1.3 million."

"The Pittsburgh Steelers, winners of six Super Bowls, the most of any franchise, play at Heinz Field, a glorious stadium that opens to a view of the serenely flowing Ohio and Allegheny Rivers. Pennsylvania taxpayers contributed about $260 million to help build Heinz Field—and to retire debt from the Steelers’ previous stadium. Most game-day revenues (including television fees) go to the Rooney family, the majority owner of the team. The team’s owners also kept the $75 million that Heinz paid to name the facility."

Sounds like those areas need better accounting and planning. Their business plans look like Penn Hills school district.

"Unfortunately, these arguments contain bad economic reasoning that leads to overstatement of the benefits of stadiums. Economic growth takes place when a community's resources—people, capital investments, and natural resources like land—become more productive. Increased productivity can arise in two ways: from economically beneficial specialization by the community for the purpose of trading with other regions or from local value added that is higher than other uses of local workers, land, and investments. Building a stadium is good for the local economy only if a stadium is the most productive way to make capital investments and use its workers."

You can continue to parrot your line of nonsense as long as you like. Still... ya got nothing. You have no numbers. No facts. You have shown that all you have is your misplaced enthusiasm for sports, which is worthless in this debate.

Sorry. I'm going with the experts on this one.

Until you post relevant info to da 'burgh, you and those experts can only parrot about the areas you've posted about. In this area, that info isn't relevant. I believe it's what you refer to as a strawman argument.

Great night for 'burgh sports, however.

Pens/Crosby looking great and in 2nd round.
Stillers/NFL Draft
