It's too bad she didn't have a weapon.

I think we may be talking about different things. I was just thinking how cold so many are just promoting their own agenda on here, but the media doesn't cover rape as much because the victims usually want to keep things private. Can't blame them, since they don't want to keep reliving it over and over. Sure is horrific. Best to travel with others if you possible can and if you feel danger, better to keep with a lot of people on the T instead of getting off alone. You can always go back later. Best to try and stay safe. Our city isn't exactly the safest out there.

If she did and made a mistake, she might be dead. Lets not pretend that a weapon works all the time. It doesn't and many times will get you killed.

How many law abiding citizens who carry become a statistic against a criminal?

Let's not pretend it's not better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it.

Chances are slim as long as you know how to use your weapon. No way I ever leave without one, especially downtown.

She could have ended up dead if she had a weapon.
This was a terrible incident but most people are completely safe.
Your greatest danger is usually from people you know.
I will never understand the 'guns make you safer' mentality. Evidence does not show this.
It is sad that people are so scared. I have lived all over the country for almost 40 years and have never been victimized (aside from pickpocket-ed).
This poor woman has a lot to recover from but thankfully she is alive.

I'm curious to see the evidence where guns don't make you safer?

Chances are she could have kept herself from getting raped.

How many law abiding citizens carrying a gun become a statistic against an attack?

Mace would have been enough and you don't need to aim well. Miss him once he grabs the gun and boom you are dead. Please, this isn't the movies or moronic Hollywood.

Anyway, your gun nut crap is just another agenda when some poor woman is trying to cope with being raped. That is the thing about the Internet. It is ALL agenda crap and that is really about all it is. Garbage. You go get 'em big hero in your fantasy land.

wpipkins has it right.

Just because you don't like them and may not know how to use them has no bearing on whether or not someone else does.

Being able to protect oneself has nothing to do with being a hero or fantasy land. It has to do with not becoming another statistic.

You really shouldn't base your lack of being able to do something on someone else not being able to do it. Those who own and trained to use a gun are certainly in a better position against things like this. I'm not sure how many women carry guns across the US, but there are plenty, and carry them for just such attacks.

Eh. I own a gun & have a carry permit (figured you're not officially an American until you do but apart from taking it out to shoot it, the gun has never left the house. I will assuredly move elsewhere before I live somewhere where I think it's necessary to carry a firearm on me to be safe wherever I go in normal situations. I think riding the T, one should have a high enough expectation of safety to not have to think of carrying a gun. Now granted I would have loved to have read instead that the woman had a weapon & the kid was 6 feet under rather than the tragedy.
