Mt. Oliver and Arlington's rise has to be directly related to having to absorb St. Clair Village.

Didn't the bridge not close until September? We might have to wait another year to see if they didn't want to commute.

Here's one more way of looking at the change in crime. Instead of considering the change from raw 2010 to raw 2015 numbers, we can add the net change for the past five years together and divide by five, getting an idea of the net crime trend. This can lead to different results because in some neighborhoods if there was a very recent spike or drop which is distorting the overall trend.

The map still looks the same overall, although more neighborhoods slow slight increases in crime rather than nearly universal declines. As with the first example, it seems like the Lower North Side, despite its buzz, is actually generally seeing rising crime (outside of Spring Hill and Troy Hill. But most of the West End has seen small but fairly consistent drops in crime. The east end is mostly getting safer. Don't let the modest rises in places like Stanton Heights, Point Breeze, or Regent Square fool you - those neighborhoods were so low crime to begin with that it matters little in terms of stats.

How did I miss this thread? I guess the usual suspects had no reason to keep it alive with their relentless negativity... didn't fit their agenda, I guess.

Well done, Eschaton.

Confirmation Bias. Some people (suburban, usually) believe that cities are dangerous. So when someone says they have never been more dangerous (absolute, 100% lie) they believe it.

I don't recall where anyone said cities are dangerous. There are posts of certain parts of cities that are dangerous. There are some stats directly above your post to show some differences in areas.

I'm referring to a certain campaign that is saying that cities are more dangerous than ever before.

The North Side looks pretty good.

Spring Hill -37.17%
Perry South -33.33%
Troy Hill -31.76%
Perry North -18.98%
California Kirkbride -7.81%
Brighton Heights -4.67%
Allegheny Center -3.92%
Marshall Shadeland -2.43%

I mean we could have a more serious analysis of it, but if you're just going to cherry pick 10 north side neighborhoods I might as well cherry pick the other 8.
