It's a cute area though I'd think you'd feel pretty isolated from the rest of the city.

IDK, I think it all depends on what your interests are. If you work downtown, you can’t beat it. It’s an easy weekday commute to the city. I have lived in Brookline for 6 years now and I spend my time Downtown, Lawrenceville, and the East Liberty areas. It’s not really a bad drive at all outside of peak traffic times, and its a easy Uber ride for when you want to enjoy a few drinks.

The amount of money you save on housing, and still get a very safe neighborhood with amenities really makes not being able to walk to the newest and hippest things in the city an easy trade of for me. Perhaps I am more of a homebody than I realize (although I dont think anyone would ever describe me as one) but I never feel isolated. I also value the idea that I can own a home in a safe, quiet, affordable neighborhood AND have a new car, save for retirement, take vacations, and enjoy other activities over being above to walk Whole Foods.
