Hey guys!
Just wondering… For people living on acre or few acre lots, especially those close to a park or on boarder of a forest, do you worry about wild animals getting into your backyard?
Deers are probably ok. But what about bears and other violent animals? Do you install fence to enclose your land? That must be expensive! And maybe only electric fence will do?
This sounds silly. But I’m thinking about maybe camping or getting a tree house in the woods if I have that big lot.

My family will get a black bear from time to time in their yard, but this is up in mercer county. Near the city/suburbs it is very rare for a bear to be seen.

Raccoons, foxes, deer, turkey are about the only wild animals you really see in these areas. Beside the obvious squirrels, birds, chipmunks and the like.

There’s been bears spotted in Cranberry Twp on multiple occasions and in areas near there. We’ve never been concerned, nor when we camp in rural areas. Don’t want them around don’t feed them and don’t leave garbage out. Don’t want them in your camping are don’t let any food out and make sure your coolers are secure or put in your vehicle.

Leave the bears alone and they'll leave you alone. Especially Mama's with cubs. Remove any birdfeeders once they wake up
and don't put them out again until early summer. Coyotes are more of a problem as they'll eat your pets. Coyotes are known to go after small children on occasion too. secure all rubbish bins and you'll be fine.

Bears have made it into Aspinwall. I’ve had them in my backyard. Coyotes are around as well, but haven’t seen them in my yard yet. I don’t think a fence will do much really. Just be loud. They don’t like people.

I use to have flocks of wild turkeys but that ended when the neighborhood coyote moved in.

You're kidding yourself if you think you need an acre or more, even in the middle of the city. Deer will stand right outside your window.

They are that close to the city? Sounds like a bad idea to sleep outside with young kids.

Why? We are talking black bears, not grizzlies or brown bears, right?

Don't have food in the tent and go camping.
