Default Biking in Pittsburgh - Other suggestions?

Glad you had a good time. Come on back.

My wife and I will be visiting over Labor Day weekend. Any specific bike routes to take in the city? I found a nice 30 mile road ride (Bridges Loop) on https://bikepush.com/bike-rides-pittsburgh/

We usually ride about 20 miles or so on our road bikes.

Thanks.

Go out on the Panhandle Trail which is 15-20 min outside the city. Park in Bulger and ride towards Burgettstown and WV.

Another fun route that's probably not well known if you are a little more adventurous is to take the GAP from the Point downtown to McKeesport then cut through Glassport and cross the river to Clairton to pick up the Montour trail at it's terminus. Take the Montour trail to Library, PA and then ride the T light rail back to downtown.

I've done this route a couple times and it's really fun. It's 31 miles one way all flat and mostly on trails except for the 4 miles section through Glassport into Clairton that is pretty low traffic.

Edit: Here is the route

**Try and incorporate the bold parts of this ride.

I like parts of that ride. All the trails around the river are great especially around Station Square because the views are nice. I am not a fan of some of that ride however. I certainly wouldn't go over that bridge to Sharpsburg, so I would forgo that part and head to One Wild Place. That is easy enough. From there I would make my way up to Highland Ave in Highland Park, but would take a left into the Park itself and have a look at the reservoir. It is a nice park and a good place to take a break next to that water. From there I would head down Highland to right on Ellsworth. Take Ellsworth all the way to the end and go right at S. Neville. Cross over 5th Ave on South Neville and go down that big hill. You will come to a. stop sign. Stay to the left and there is a park on your left there. Continue down and you will see a yellow gate to keep cars out. Take that trail that is Panther Hollow. Get down to the trail that will take you to the Hot Metal Bridge. You can go over the Hot Metal or continue on into downtown. This is a better route if you want to see Pittsburgh. People suggesting going out of the city I think are missing the point of a city ride to explore. If you have questions I am happy to answer them. I can give more detail if needed, but figured you can see it on your on-line maps. There are flat routes to take around the city as well. Stay on trails all by the rivers and it is pretty nice. The South Side trail by REI is a nice ride and end up by Station Square. Go past Station Square to loop up on the Fort Pitt Bridge on the large sidewalk. This takes you to Point State Park. Don't miss this loop area as it is awesome. You can continue on up to get to the North Shore. From there you can ride down by the stadiums or up to Millvale. Don't miss these parts in Bold. Really cool. If you are into a big hill you can head up PJ McArdle to the amazing views from Mt. Washington. You can ride on the sidewalk up McArdle. Very cool. If going up that hill is too much, try and get up there via the incline or car. Very unique Pittsburgh and not to be missed.

Sorry I'm out of time now and can't proofread this.

Default Pizza?

You're telling me there's no good NY-style pizza in the Pittsburgh area? Was considering moving back in the future, but good pizza (and bread / bagels) is a must! I'm in a food desert right now when it comes to pizza and bread (Kentucky). Born in Pittsburgh, lived most of my life in NY/NJ, so I really miss the pizza/bread/ bagels. Sometimes I will splurge and have bagels sent from Utopia Bagels in Queens. I was told that they don't have bread in the South and I didn't believe them. I thought: how could that be? Well, it's true.
