This is just the scheduling information that is displayed on Google Maps. PAT would need to open up the real time API for developers to use the real time info. If I had a guess, that will be in 2015.

I didn't see that yet, thanks for sharing. Good stuff. Yep, that is the back end data needed to make an app. Then the app would pretty it up and display it a nice format.

True. I imagine those and the T lines will generate the most interest.

It would be nice if PAT would roll out tracking on the 61s and 71s around the time that the colleges start back up. Maybe advertise it at freshman orientations and around campus at the start of the year. Maybe see if the schools can send something out to the students about something the students would definitely use.

The problem with 61s isn't that nobody knows when they're going to come. It's that nobody believes there will ever be another bus after whatever bus is sitting right there. Everybody has to get on whichever one is first. This is true even if you can look down Forbes and see the next bus behind it.

Anymore, if it's shortly after 5:00, I let the first one go unless it's one of the big articulated ones.

I still think that the Port Authority is taking the right position by not simply restoring service although they probably shouldn't drag their feet too long on a service review

No additional routes will be part of the authority’s next round of quarterly service changes, scheduled to take effect Aug. 31, officials said Friday. Some routes will get extra trips to ease overcrowding, including the 51 Carrick...Mel Packer, a Pittsburghers for Public Transit member from Point Breeze, questioned the authority’s plan to move ahead with $5.5 million in planning and design of a Bus Rapid Transit line from Downtown to Oakland, an area already well-served by buses, while other neighborhoods have no service....Authority spokeswoman Heather Pharo said schedule changes planned for Aug. 31 do not include new routes or extensions of existing routes but will bring several service enhancements, including added trips on the crowded 51 Carrick and 51L Carrick Limited routes. Other details will be released soon, she said.
