Can any suggest other towns outside of the city limits that are similar to Oakmont and Sewickley? Preferably within a 30 minute drive to downtown (or a 1 hour drive to downtown when there is traffic).

Or are Oakmont and Sewickley pretty much the only two?

Those are frankly the two best examples of a somewhat upscale self sufficient town. There are other towns but they aren't as nice or are much smaller. Aspinwall is nicer but much much smaller. Etna and Millvale are towns but they are clearly not as nice as Oakmont or Sewickley. Coraopolis and Sharpsburg have a town feel and again aren't as nice. Mckees Rocks and Wilkinsburg are also "towns" but they are not very nice. After thinking about it, Bellvue is probably your best bet but it isn't as nice as Oakmont or Sewickley. I think you may be surprised about the price of houses in Oakmont and Sewickley. For example, I know someone who is in the process of buying a home in Oakmont for 25,000.

Beaver might be just a tad over 30 min away. It's a cute little town with a nice downtown.

Beaver is nice, but to bad it's dry and very very conservative.

If you want to go south of downtown Pittsburgh, Dormont is a pretty nice town. Mount Lebanon is also nice but parts of it can get on the pricey side.

Didn't know it was dry. My brother's good friend lives there, and they are always going to bars, I guess not in Beaver, though. They go to that bar where that Amber who was on "Survivor" was a server.

Conservative? I dunno. It's the county seat of Beaver County, a blue-collar Democrat place if there ever was one!

Same thing with Bellevue. It's nice but unfortunately( for those who are not teetotalers) its dry .

Beaver County went 51%/48% for McCain. Many Western PA Dems are "In Name Only."

Well, yeah, and there's more than a little racism there, too, which may have affected the election. I can say that. I grew up there. Locally, they tend to elect Democrats.
