Default best place to live for a family

Hi, my husband just got a job offer with WH. And we are relocating from NC to Madison, PA next month. Can anybody give me some ideas about which town / neighborhood I should be looking if we want to rent.

Here are the our criteria:

#1 best school & low crime rate
#2 App.. 30 mins commute to Madison
#3 close to shopping, and the city (30 mins or less without traffic)
#4 reasonable rent ($1500 for a 3-4 bedroom house in good condition)

We know nothing about the area. I have heard people mention Murrysville. Did some research and found almost nothing. And the time is running out. Your recommendation and input will be highly appreciated!

Regards,

Janet

Lots of people who work at the Westinghouse Waltz Mill Location in Madison choose to live in North Huntingdon Township. It's the large suburban township surrounding the town of Irwin in Westmoreland county. It is close to shopping, and 30-45 min from downtown Pittsburgh (depending on the time of day, so your 30 min requirement to Pittsburgh is just barely met). Great schools, nice neighborhoods (but still affordable), and very safe. Also lower taxes, since it's not in Allegheny County. Also, only about 20 min drive to work.

Murrysville is an option, but would be a longer drive to work everyday (but still doable). Monroeville is also an option, but it is a lil more expensive than North Huntingdon due to it being located in Allegheny County. Monroeville would put you the closest to Pittsburgh of these choices, however.

Greensburg, Mount Pleasant, and Bell Vernon would not meet your requirement of 30 min drive to Pittsburgh, as they are a lil further out. Good luck!

Unity Township also has a lot of Westinghouse employees... but it's not 30 minutes to Pittsburgh either.
