Are there laws regarding pepper spray/mace? I've carried one on my keychain since I started college in 2006 and I'm afraid to take it off just in case I should need it.
Have fun, bring it along, no laws.

You may think you are ready for the cold, but don't forget to bring waterproof boots and warm wool socks. It will likely be very slushy and messy for walking.

I think Phipps is one of the top winter attractions in Pittsburgh.

I might walk over on my lunch hour one of these days--seeing something growing and green would be nice after this weather.

Question....how safe is the Moon Township area? And how far is it from South Side Works and other areas downtown? Especially Pitt?

Check and Check on the boots and socks. They came in handy when I was in Niagara last year!

I will definitely check out Phipps then. I love gardens and things like that.

Moon township is spread out, pretty darn safe.
At least 20-30 min drive from SSW and other areas downtown.
Completely different area, Moon is more towards the airport.

Robert Morris is seventeen miles from Downtown and twenty miles or so from both South Side Works and Oakland. Moon Township is a western suburb near the airport.

If you have a GPS unit, bring it. If you don't have one, buy one, or make sure your rental car has it. Otherwise I promise you'll have no idea where the hell you are, where you're going, or how they relate to each other -- even with maps in hand. Pittsburgh is pretty much the most disorienting, unintuitive city imaginable to try to navigate without being familiar with it. Don't try asking for directions either. When a native Pittsburgher says "I can't really explain how to get there," they mean it.

As for food... IMO no trip to Pittsburgh is complete without a stop at Mad Mex, particularly the one near Pitt. It's a unique place.

Oh, and if you're looking for something a little unique and a bit up-market, I highly recommend Point Brugge Cafe.
