It isn't far if you are driving from Oakland to Point Breeze, and I would second the recommendation of Point Brugge. If you are in that area and have some time for tourism, I would also recommend checking out the Frick Art and Historical Center, the former Frick estate featuring a few small free museums plus paid tours of Clayton, the mansion. The Cafe at the Frick is another good eating option, and I would also recommend a few nearby places in Regent Square for dining--my favorites are D's for a more casual experience, and Legume for a more upscale experience. From Regent Square you can easily hop on I-376 to get back Downtown. So, you could do a loop out to Pitt, then over to Point Breeze, then either back to Downtown or over to Regent Square before heading back Downtown.

All this is assuming you want to venture out for a more neighborhood experience. But I'd recommend doing so if you have the time and inclination, since it really is quite close to Pitt and will give you a bit more of a feel for life in Pittsburgh.

Just far enough that walking wouldn't be practical unless you've got 30 to 40 minutes to kill each way. By car, it's about an 8 to 10-minute drive.

Is that a euphemism or a literal question?

Literal question. We're trying to time the Duq. Incline so that we can see it as the sun sets and then get a good view of it at night.

During the last week of February, the sun sets at 6:05pm, give or take a couple minutes.

The sun will be setting behind Mt. Washington, though, so you won't really get a good sunset view from the incline.

I think the idea is to have the sun shining on the buildings of downtown, near sunset. That's usually the view you want to get.

The Duquesne Incline is good but I like the view from the West End Overlook better. That's the place to be when the sun is setting on a clear day.

Specifically targeting a sunset view may or may not be worth it, but a nighttime view is definitely a good idea.
