Restaurant proposed in Schenley Plaza

The article does not state if it will be open twenty-four hours or not. The name would be Currant, so my guess is that it will not be twenty-four hours like most Eat n' Park restaurants. It would be neat to be able to eat in the park at an Eat n' Park. The concept would be like their traditional restaurants rather than like Six Penn Kitchen.

That would be an interesting concept, I also like the idea of eating in the park, gives people more choices.

I don't like the idea of commercialization of any of Allegheny County parks.

It says Schenley Plaza, not the park. The plaza is where sunbathing college kids pack like it's Woodstock all summer, between the libraries (Carnegie and Hillman).

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I feel like it would be both crowded and an eyesore.

The person that named this company must have been dyslexic. Should be called "Park 'n Eat". :-)

I to am uneasy about commercialization of public space.
There are plenty of restaurants nearby.
Whats the matter with the idea of a picnic?
Wats next? .. A Wallmart at the point?

Schenley Plaza used to be a parking lot, and ever since it was redeveloped it has had food kiosks. It is hard to "commercialize" something which has been commercial from the start.

And in fact Schenley Plaza reminds me of the European and older American plazas that have always had restaurants incorporated into them, because dining in a space like that can be very pleasant.

First, Schenley Plaza is technically part of Schenley Park, no? Second, if I'm not mistaken it was planned since the Plaza's redesign that there would be some sort of restaurant there, which is why there's that parcel of land fenced off behind the kiosks. Third, I don't see this as "commercialization" at all, the point is to make the plaza lively and successful. Kiosks and restaurants can help do that. If there was enough foot traffic to support it, something similar would probably be great at the Point or some other similar place. Is selling beer and food at Heinz Field the commercialization of a sporting event? :-p

I agree. It's already commercial there and, frankly, I'd prefer seeing it used by a more diverse group of people milling about, having lunch and moving on, instead of wall to wall sunbathing kids.

What's wrong with sunbathing kids?
And what would go on there if the kids were gone?
