Prone to ehaggeration much OP? Ending the birthright citizenship for those born to parents in this country illegally is not telling voters to "drop dead". It is telling them that their power at the ballot box will not be usurped by those here illegally. It removes the reward of citizenship for the off-spring
of those who have broken the law.

It levels the playing field for all immigrants who apply to enter this country legally.

The US is the only Western nation that still gives automatic citizenship to any baby who's mother can jump the fence before that last push out of the birth canal.

Realistically, the 14th Amendment has been perverted from its original intent. Had it been applied in accordance with the laws we wouldn't have anchor babies. But, politicians like to prostitute themselves for votes at the expense of the citizenry. Maybe this prostitution by politicians for votes can be decreased. This is a good start.

I don't believe SCOTUS has actually ruled on that have they? If so, please provide a link to the case text.

No it doesn't, because the kids of legal immigrants would not have citizenship rights either if 14th amendment is removed.

If you are an engineer who is more than 60 years old, you remember when Engineers were compensated and respected on a level of doctors. So yet another path to the Middle Class for American children was shut down, thanks to the massive government that sucks half the money out of our economy on the pretext of "protecting" Americans.

Now the socialists are turning doctors into low-level employees of mega-corporations.

What careers are your kids planning on pursuing?

I don't know why the GOP is opting for the short term gain of scared white voters giving them the House back for the long-term sacrifice of hispanics for an entire generation. Not a good strategy IMO.
But the move by the Obamas to hand out amnesty to them will take their votes away from the Hispanics so there is no reason for Republicans to try to get their votes. Open your eyes and look at the facts.

Well, actually it's not that clear cut. The rub is this:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

Being "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is the debatable part. Is a tourist REALLY subject to jurisdiction by the USA? A woman who hobbles over the border at 9 months?

It's a simple fix, IMO. Children of legal residents and citizens become citizens automatically. Tourists, students, etc...? No thanks. This aint 1800 anymore and we don't need to encourage people to come fill the massive frontier.
