They're folks are working all the time, and when their off work -- IF they have free time, they are absorbed in themselves. Kids are smart enough to know all the media crap their parents are accepting is a farce, and don't see any place in the world for them. They wonder what's the point, and check out.

Do you blame them?

Sometimes I agree with that - only I don't think the drugs should be that available. When drug addicts are arrested for other crimes, they could be supplied an unlimited quantity of all sorts of drugs and a large number of them will remove themselves as problems permanently.

Why not provide prisoners every kind of drug in unlimited quantity? No health care though if they choose to overdose. That would solve a lot of the problem with prison costs.
