It's their business, they should be able to do what they want. What are we supposed to legislate that they must put rainbows on cupcakes? It's their business, their decision.
It'll probably hurt their business tho, but again that should be their choice.
There was a thread on this forum last year that said rainbow flags are a secret plot to convert children into homosexuality. Maybe the person who started that thread is also the owner of the bakery!
i remember that and that is not the whole story, it wasnt just they were giving them rainbow flags, look it up but it wont matter cause you defend any action a gay person does.
Let's say there was a porno convention in town and the bakery had refused to bake items with the letters XXX in frosting for them. Would there be any issue with this? Would the mayor step in and demand they do it? Would it make headlines? Welcome to the United States Of Double Standards.
There are laws at every level of govt relating to lewd and lascivious behavior, displays/ conduct, indecent exposure. There are laws on the books authorizing censorship on that general subject and they're fairly consistent. If that were the case I could see their unwillingness on that subject because it is consistent with laws. That is not the case with a rainbow.
There were not turned away for being gay. They were turned away because they asked the bakery to make something that it did not want to make.
Why does a bakery have to be tolerant toward everyone's desires? It doesn't. It is a privately run business and as such has the right to decide what it will and will not do.
These people weren't turned away at the door. The came inside, requested a product, somehow told the baker what it was for, and were denied.
What's the problem?
They don't have to be, I'm just saying if someone is going to be intolerant, they should expect to offend others. People take it personally when they're not treated equally.

The problem is that people are acting surprised that the customer felt discriminated against.
How would you feel if a place of business refused to make cupcakes for you because they symbolized something like your religion or race, which they inherently disagreed with? How would you feel if they were so intolerant of your race or religion that they couldn't even be professional enough to just put the order in?
More IN YOUR FACE WITH OUR LIFESTYLE gay nonsense. They want respect, but give none. I say if a business doen't want to do business with you, go elsewhere. Making a big deal out of it is stupid. But then they always were stupid. If you want to be a *****, *** or as they misuse the name for happy, gay, don't throw it in people's faces such as is the case with this story. Here again we see the gays being intolarent of someone else's beliefs while screaming they should have more respect and we should be more tolerant of them. More double standard by the nut jobs.

"IN YOUR FACE WITH OUR LIFESTYLE"? How's that? They wanted some rainbow cupcakes. Apparently this bakery does make cupcakes, as the owner's complaint wasn't that they didn't do cupcakes; it was that he was concerned about a bad example for his kids.
I say if a business doen't want to do business with you, go elsewhere.
That's what the KKK used to say to blacks.

Exactly. So whether it's posted officially or not, they are saying "No gays allowed".
The thing that makes me frustrated even giving this argument the time of day is this blank check excuse conservatives have written themselves saying "in your face with our lifestyle" accusation. They fail to articulate the exact behavior that offends them.
Stereotypes being what they are, and gays hamming up that stereotype for display purposes or self identity-- I don't care for loud, drama queen histrionics coming from any human being. Screaming/ shrieking in the aisle of a supermarket just for shock value. I don't care for belligerant black people doing it, punk white kids doing it, or whining entitled rich women doing it. It's particularly unseemly/ distasteful when it's coming from a self purported conservative male.
SO folks, lets talk about standards of conduct in polite society. That's where most can hear the merits of your arguments. The rest I'm afraid are really your own personal issues.

How was the bakery intolerant? They do not want their daughters to learn about the gay lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with that. If anyone else tried going into a bakery and ordered rainbow colored baked goods with gay symbolism, they would have been turned away too.
