Private-sector employment surges - Jan. 5, 2011

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Private sector payrolls soared 297,000 in December, payroll processor ADP announced Wednesday.

The gain marks the 11th consecutive month of increases, and was much larger than economists had expected. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com were forecasting an increase of 100,000 jobs.

That's good news indeed. Unfortunately, we still have 25 million Americans under/unemployed. Hopefully someday we can catch up to make a dent in that number.

Yep, sure is. The tide turned last year in many areas, and things will only pick up speed from now on. Jobs are always the last to recover, but it is happening. I feel this is going to be a very good year. I rebalanced my 401K last night, and was very pleased with the recovery of my portfolio. Like most people with 401Ks, the 2008 meltdown was a huge concern, because much of our retirement depends on it, but I am not concerned anymore.

Yes, some day, but don't be naive and expect it to happen over night.

I'm not naive, but considering that the increase in private sector payrolls only represents a .01% dent in the absolute number of under and unemployed, I think it's a bit premature to be high-fiving an breathing sighs of relief.

That is good news, but it's hardly surprising that the GOP's corporate buddies would start hiring AFTER they won control of the House.

Those same companies have been sitting on a mountain of cash for some time now, but not hiring. To have them suddenly need more workers just as the GOP takes over is more than a little suspicious to me.

Let's see how long it takes the Republican's to take credit for it.

payrolls. Is that like when someone pays for a roll? Because food is sure as heck soaring along with paychecks. Real wages are likely down, way down from 2008.

Here we go again. SSeason after season these reports come out like the economy is getting better. This is a farce. December????? Hello!!!! What time of year is that?!?!?! Those people are already laid off. Everytime seasonal hiring happens we get the same BS threads from the same people. You'd think they'd learn by now.
