I would wager that of the 300,000+ million people in the United States - most of whom celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday that less than .00000000000000001 of them are being thankful to the Wampanaws. Buy yes, you're right, they do.
Thanksgiving is ignored because it's not a holiday that retailers can make a ton of $$$$$ from. Simple as that. Only holidays that rake in the cash and gifts are promoted.

Go ahead and admit that you know they were thanking God at that first Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims were religious, God fearing people and the Indians there didn't seem to mind that they were taking part in a feast of thanksgiving.
Are you sure people are really "skipping" Thanksgiving? Or is it just a matter of it not being commercialized and being crowed from the rooftops? The vast majority of people I know have that day set aside for family and friends... whether it is religious or not (and yes, our family gives a blessing and thanks before the meal - if for no other reason than it IS a time of year when friends and family do gather together).
Why does everyone assume that the nonreligious are atheists? Seems like a bad assumption to me.
We use thanksgiving as a nice long holiday to get our family from various states together in one place and enjoy time together. This includes a few nice meals for sure. I think this is the direction that most are taking these days.
I give thanks to some brave men and women that set sail across the ocean, into the unknown.
I'm Thankful GOD directed them to Plymouth.
I'm also thankful, GOD created TEXAS!
Are you thankful to the keebler elves for cookies?
There's about as much proof for one as for the other.

Though it was not called Thanksgiving at the time, what we recognize as the first Thanksgiving feast was celebrated in 1621 by the pilgrims of the Plymouth colony along with about 90 Wampanoag Indians. The Pilgrims had suffered through a devastating winter in which nearly half their number died. Without the help of the Indians, all would have perished.
After the first harvest, Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving and prayer to God.
Again, ain't no proof of a god thing.
No matter what you want to believe.
Want to take your rants to the religion folder?
They'd be much more appreciated there.
There is absolutely no proof of any god thing, anywhere.
