Wonder how many even own a snow shovel since they live in apartments?

Only one baby passed away from the reports I read. Also, there have been complaints that some 911 calls were never answered. The EMS workers were doing their best, some were walking on foot several blocks with all of their equipment to answer emergency calls

And it is not just a coincidence that most of Manhattan looks like a blizzard never hit, especially Times Square and other tourist hot spots.

These tragedies happened, I am certainly not denying that. Do these actual news outlets say or imply that it is due to a Union directed plot? I don't think so, they show journalistic integrity. In other words, reporters that report facts. If the assertions turn out to be valid, they will report that. As yet, we don't know.

I'm sure the 911 system was inundated with non-emergency calls.
Just think about how people are and what they may think an emergency is.

From the article:

"More than 49,000 emergency calls were made Monday, overwhelming the city emergency communications system...."

WOW just WOW....

If this turns out to be some sort of union protest, then the city needs to immediately break all contracts with the union and fire the employees.

Nobody parks their car on the street over night in those places (Times Square/ Downtown), so moving the snow is a lot easier, you can block a lane with it. You've got to have some place to push the snow to - you can't just keep pushing it ahead.

But ask anyone who lives anywhere that it snows on a regular basis, most communities usually do not let you leave your car on the street during a snow emergency. Most New Yorker's don't have that luxury.

Just about every time it snows heavily in a major metro area, someone doesn't get the help they need, and sometimes they die. Its a shame, but it has happened before and it will happen again. And it happens in area's that don't have members in one of the big unions.

If some individuals are responsible for some intentional slowdown, they will be dealt with I am sure. If it was at the direction to the Union Authority, you may have a valid point.

Don't you think 400 less workers would have an effect on how quickly they could clear the roads ?

I just might be a combination of the two. What if many of those 400 were the older employees with experience and what were left were the younger inexperienced workers who then have to deal with a crisis ?

Could be lots of issues came into play here. After seeing pictures though and talking to family in NYC this blizzard was not handled as well as previous storms were. Streets were just not cleared the way they had been in past years.

Maybe the systems are just breaking down due to no money to keep them at the level that everyone expects ?

According to CBS, those 400 workers were trash haulers and their supervisors.
