Who is pushing to remove Physical Education from schools? Links? Examples?
Same question to you since your such a fan of the statement.
Brought to you from another, "fan of the statement."
"In schools across the United States, physical education has been substantially reduced - and in some cases completely eliminated - in response to budget concerns and pressures to improve academic test scores."

The article, from a PE advocacy group, does not support its title.
The article discusses the benefits of P.E. and through various studies shows how P.E. can enhance academic learning. It also points out that P.E. programs are being eliminated due to budget cuts and the erroneous belief that in order to achieve superior academic test results, time should not be wasted on P.E.
I agree with this and think the Obamas should get out of the school kitchens. Let the States get back to running their own schools and get the "running" back in the schools. P.E. will help with the health and academic performance of students.
Hey dymimagelv
I did`t whine. I asked a simple question. Seems to me if anyone does not agree with the person in office now days. They are either called RACES, WHINNER BABIES or hates the Government. I am not either of these.
Well ladyofnorth, you may have meant it to be a simple question but considering we're all on a computer where the answer to your simple question could have easily been found, it came across more like whining. Just letting you know how it appears to those of us reading it.

So you are in favor of scrapping the school lunch program that has been around for >60 years? You're going to have some awfully angry farmers. And why should anyone tell kids to exercise any more than they should tell them what to eat? Why does it matter who is doing the "telling"?
PLease note I'm saying this as devil's advocate; I have no problem with PE in schools.

In some area's it the parents who don't want PE in school. I remember when I was in middle school there would be tons of kids who opted out of PE because they played football or basketball or were on the track team. When other kids found out they went home to their parents and complained that it wasn't fair that they had to take PE because ROTC works out just as hard as the cheerleaders or the marching band practices as much as the volleyball team and so on and so on...
The new thing now is that the kids don't feel comfortable showering because everyone has camera phones and access to the internet so if they do have PE it's unlikely they'll do anything to make them sweat. PE at my old high school consists of learning about certain muscles and sports but not actually using or playing them.
Can't blame everything on the big bad school system. Lazy kids and eager-to-please parents take some of the blame.
I agree with you that we need to provide federal funding for a good physical education program at all public schools.
Okay a wacky thought after reading your post.
The Obama's could've supplied the example, how??
Okay, they should've cut their "royal club med paid for by the taxpayers" vacation and flown Air Force One into NYC during last weeks snowstorm so to partake in some manual labor (part of the physical education) by Obama and the first lady each taking a snow plow truck and plow the streets with the kids just enjoying the ride.
