a preference by definition is a choice. So yes, it is a choice.

The OP asks, "Is sexual preference a choice." I point out again the redundancy. The very word "preference" denotes choice.

Definition of preference: a strong liking, the right or chance to so choose.
So the OP is asking; Is sexual choice a choice.

Nuff said.

I didn't choose to be attracted to men. So why is their an assumption that gay people make the choice to be attracted to the same sex.

Are there any heterosexual people here who made a choice to be attracted to the opposite sex??

Most fundamentalists that I've talked to about the subject have two opinions. They believe that either:

Sexual preference is a choice (if it was not, that means that God flawed in his creation of man w/ regards to homosexuals). I remember the old saying in Sunday School as a kid, "God don't make no junk". They really pressed that into the kids even back then.

Mankind's evil behaviors over the last 8000 years since creation has led to these perverse "mental conditions" that homosexuals suffer from, as well as birth abnormalities such as intersex births (as I discovered on another thread). That's if they even acknowledge that hemaphrodites actually exist.

I believe that both of these are ludicrous. Why would someone WANT to be gay? To have to deal with the persecution and shunning of their family and peers? Religions will always shun homosexuality because if it was widely accepted that it is NOT a choice, that would mean that their belief system is flawed.

Now, the ACT of gay sex IS a choice, just like it is a choice for me to have sex with my wife. But, I did NOT CHOOSE to be attracted to women. It just is what it is. I argue this point with fundies all the time. So, then the fundamentalist would say something like..."Then the gay needs to refrain from having gay sex and follow Gods word".

See, it will go on and on and on forever because they just don't get it.

All the heterosexuals I know have always been heterosexual with no question. All the gay people I've know through the years were heterosexual at one time and then were gay.

Did you ever decide that you were straight? If you were anything like me, it didn't require any thought at all. You just sort of knew who you were attracted to.

Interesting, all of the gay people I know tried to fake it in their early teens, in an effort to fit in, but admitted they have always been attracted to the same sex for their entire lives.
