Agreed. Our plan is cheap thru wife's work (I think about $150/month) but if we didn't have an affordable employer plan I'd go with high deductible probably $10k.

It is not a right to own a home or an auto.

It is not a government mandate you have home insurance. The mortgage Company makes sure their investment is insured, but once paid off. They could careless as well as any government agency.

Auto insurance is for the privilege of driving and the possibility of damage to another individuals property. It is to protect you from the poor, that have nothing to pay with, or to litigate for.

Health insurance is not a right.

This monstrosity, is not health reform, it is a payoff to the health insurance industry, that got the Progressive administration and legislatures elected.

It does nothing to fix healthcare. It just make insurance corporations more wealthier.

I am really curious as to the No's, as I am thinking of just letting mine lapse.

OOPS, as usual I forgot a category - Medicare, aka socialized medicine, but you can just share that.
I do. I pay insurance with the system in the Army for retired servicemembers. I admit it is less expensive than outside and in this case I consider myself blessed. It cover my wife and I, take care.

I bet in the past 6 years you have paid 5 times more then my family for your medical-insurance. Insurance should be there for emergency's not your everyday checkups. Most people don't have a clue what a simple checkup even costs. Its not that much. I don't get how somebody can pay 1000 a month or more for insurance and then be amazed someone has a 5000 deductible.

A broken leg, a hernia that later caused intestinal complications a year later, and a $5000 a year additional income I must try to find, while I struggle to pay my premiums, has pretty much bankrupted me.
I first bought health insurance in the early 1990's at age 30. $210 a month and a $250 deductible, $10 co-pay. free generic prescriptions.

It was affordable for the most part.

I should qualify my response, too. I put employer, but it's really DH's employer. I could get it through mine, but he works for a bigger company, hence has a better plan.

I was going to be paying almost $1700 a month for our family of 3, from Blue Cross.

$5000 deductible is like not having insurance at all.
This is true. I work in a dr's office, and we are seeing many patients who don't want to come in when they should, or get tests that they should get, b/c of their deductible. For the most part, these people chose these insurances b/c they were sold down the river on what a good idea they were. A plan that would cover more probably wouldn't be *that* much more expensive for them.
