I kinda wonder what people expect the President to do. Egypt is a foreign country and, short of invading, our options for influencing what is going on are very limited.
It is a mistake to think that any US president is 'handling' anything in Egypt. It is the people of Egypt that are handling things in Egypt. And the US should just shut up and sit on the sidelines like every other country. It is out of our hands.
I understand where you are coming from, from one perspective, but other world leaders who have allied with the US, are watching closely at the way in which our president either supports, or abandons his allies.
The enemies of our allies are taking notes to see how to overthrow a government. If it is as easy as starting riots in the streets, to get 0bama to abandon his allies, look for more of the same.
Oh for heaven sake. The Bushies are trying to take CREDIT for the fall of the government in Egypt because they helped spread the "seeds of democracy" in the middle east. I swear--if Obama sneezed some of you would blame him for a tornado in the midwest. Get a grip.

I think your comment betrays a fundamental lack of understanding about what is going on and how the US is trying to play it. Firstly, this isn't just a few riots. Rather, it is a huge grass roots movement for change. Second, no-one has abandoned Mubarak. However, it is clear that the administration is keeping its options open .... and it is right that they should.
And Carter didn't LOSE Iran. We backed the Shah, and the Shah lost Iran. If anyone lost Iran, it was probably Ike with his CIA backed overthrow of a democratically elected government there.
And who was the CIA director at that time?
George HW Bush.
Everyone in office spends time on the un-important things in life. The US needs to be more "US Centered" f everything else. Problems start when people poke arounds in others business.
For heavens sake ....... successive administrations have pursued a largely similar policy towards these countries and there has been a high degree of continuity in the way relations have been handled. To suggest that this administration or that administration "lost" a country is ignorant in the extreme. The more intelligent posters on this forum, irrespective of personal political leanings, have been able to have an informed conversation about the subject which did not include the usual partisan sniping. That is because partisan sniping has no place in this situation.
