It's true that unions once had an important role in American industrial history. Many of today's worker rights are the result of union demands.

But this isn't 1911. This is 2011, and today's unions do nothing but make outrageous demands in order to subsidize the weak-willed, weak-minded underachievers who simply do not have what it takes to stand tall and independently make a productive career for themselves.

And to top it all off, these people have to PAY for this service while union leadership enriches themselves! LOL

Thankfully, I am not one of those people. Every job that i've had, every rung of the ladder that I have climbed, every wage that I have earned was done with clear goals, hard work, and personal and professional motivation.

I don't need a union thug to hold my hand. Sadly, millions of American's can't say the same.

I totally agree. We now have state and federal laws, the EEOC, and other agencies that are PAID to protect "workers rights". Unions were only needed where the law could not reach way back in history.

They were also orginally created to protect the jobs of WHITES against the cheaper labor available from BLACK and CHINESE workers who would accept less.

Government Unions and Layoffs - NYTimes.com

I'm originally from North Carolina, which has the lowest number of Unionized employees. No wonder I don't hold unions and union members in high esteem! I've witnessed and experienced success without those thugs, why can't other people?

Ya, this is 2011 for sure and workers have not been under such attack for a long long time. Just take the recent Catterpiller saga for example. Catterpiller makes record profits, pays it's CEO insane $$$$ and locks out it's employees in London On. because they will not accept a 50% reduction in pay and the elimination of most of their benefits. That is just disgusting to the max.

Two of my son in laws are proud union men. One is a steam fitter and the other is a carpenter. They both make a good living but are not getting rich by any stretch of the imagination. Both of them make well over twice what they would in a non union situation. The nonunion guys really struggle not only in a wage respect but also in the stability and long term prospects of their trade. The non union guy has no security at all. His job is only as good as the lowest common denominator is. In other words when someone comes along who is going to work for less then it's goodbye time.

It's funny that this anti union environment we are living in today is only directed at the blue collar workers and the middle class.
One of my sons is a Medical specialist. He makes over $300,000 a year and his medical association that protects him is nothing more than a very exclusive "Union" there is. Where is the kickback against the Canadian medical association? It does not exist because these are DOCTORS and not some dirty tradesman.

Another son of mine is a Lawyer and according to hin the "Bar" is one of the most restrictive and exclusive, "Unions" of them all. You can't practice law if you are not a member. Again, there is no one bitching and complaining about this. His wife is a Chartered accountant and there again we have a very closed shop. Sure you crunch numbers without the CA tag on your name but that is worth $20 per hour and not the $200 an hr. you pay a CA.

Unions are the only thing that has lifted the working class up for the position of wage slaves to that of middle class and lower middle class at the best of times. It's no surprise at all that we see this attack on labour in sync with the decline in both the number of middle class people and the relative prosperity of the class as a whole.

Of course this entire senerio is driven by the right who have never valued the working man and have moaned and bewailed every single improvment in the working classes life style. They want now and have always wanted a bigger share of the economic pie for their greedy selves and if they have to do that on the backs of those who are really responisible for almost all economic growth and activity, they don't care one single bit.

Are we talking Canada or the United States of America? The policies, practices, cultures, governance, and laws are not the same if you're talking Canada. I don't do apples/oranges comparisons.

The unions are the latest scapegoats. What's odd is that I find union members who participate in the union bashing. I always ask them why do they work for a company that hires unions and they give me a stupid look

Awesome. Another Liberal using the word "troll" in order to avoid discussing the topic. You all must read the same magazines and blogs telling you how to respond to online forums you disagree with.

What is there to discuss. You are calling rank and file union members weak willed and underachievers. I say they are not. What else is there to say??
