Surgeons raise alarm over waiting

In England in 2009/10 there were 101,020 hip replacements and 73,378 knee replacements carried out
Surgeons say patients in some parts of England have spent months waiting in pain because of delayed operations or new restrictions on who qualifies for treatment.
In several areas routine surgery was put on hold for months, while in many others new thresholds for hip and knee replacements have been introduced.
Surgeons have described the delays faced by patients as "devastating and cruel". Peter Kay, the president of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), says they've become increasingly frustrated that hip and knee replacements are being targeted as a way of finding savings.
Oh please...........whatever.......as if surgeons are the most unbiased group of people in a situation like this. Gimme a break. They gotta make their money and drive their racket just like every other doctor. Most would be broke without their medicare payments.

That is true. Reimbursement for medicare varies among states and among specialties. We lose money on medicare patients, but consider it a "loss leader" to continue to treat them. Besides, the old folks are pretty nice and are on medicare by no fault of thier own.
I am shocked, shocked to learn that doctors think the government should spend more money on medicine and that they would resort to dodgy claims in the popular media. Wait, no I'm not.
Why do they not go private? You do realize that there is - and always has been - a thriving private sector in UK healthcare?
Maybe because they give so much of their money to the government that they have nothing left for private health care costs.... or maybe because they have grown up in a nanny state and expect the government to take care of them.

Maybe doctors will for a change, go back to doing what they are "supposed" to "love" doing: helping patients (rather than to focus on how much they are getting paid). Maybe some of them will actually be honest with their patients with chronic and degenerative diseases and refer them to Naturopathic doctors who can actually help them regain their health (rather than just put them on prescriptions for the rest of their lives to cover up the symptoms of the disease and to help them live with their disease as conventional doctors would do).
Maybe people will smarten up and realize that western medicine is NOT the be-all-end-all and should really be limited to ACUTE care only and start learning to differentiate between different types of doctors and understand the limitations of their training in medical school.
More people with Less money to pay for prescription drugs might force the prices to come down and it might mean that fewer people take them which could result in fewer deaths from complications and side effects. It could turn out to be a GOOD thing.
