I agree, lets start cutting the military. We have to do it in a manner that makes sense.

1) Bring all the forces home that are involved in Obama's war of aggression in Libya

2) Eliminate any involvement of US forces in the UN and NATO

3) Get the military out of the relief business. Quit using them to respond to natural disasters around the world.

4) Get out of Afganistan. There is no one there worth the life of an American soldier.

5) Close unnecessary bases. The military has suggested closures in the past, congress has shot them down. Lets start with those in states that oppose the military anyway. Close all bases in CA, IL, NY, MA.

6) Eliminate most overseas bases. Keep a small handful in US territories when there is a particular stratigic need.

7) Quit using the military to build schools and infrastructure in foreign countries.

8) Eliminate ALL foreign aid. There is no reason for the US to be trying to fix AIDS in Africa for example.

Lets see where that puts us financially and go forward from there

Where's the link to Ron Paul saying that one trillion needs to be cut --- or is this just a steaming pile of hyperbole?

But yes, I would support cutting military spending however I do recognize that it is a tad difficult right now considering we are fighting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq with Libya looming on the horizon. But then I am a libertarian.....

The military needs to be cut, as well as EVERY government program.
According to the link I posted above, it's $1 trillion over 10 years.

All good ideas, IMO.

No more playing policeman, social worker and savior of the oppressed and downtrodden of the world.

It's not worth the expense in either blood or money.

I do not like Ron Paul, but I seriously doubt he would make such a stupid statement. The Defense budget in 2010 was $685.1 billion, so cutting $1 trillion from Defense would not only eliminate all defense, it would also cut $314.9 billion more than was spent.

I agree as well, but until we get a libertarian or heavily progressive government control fat chance of most all of that happening.

Republicans have answered loud and clear absolutely no cuts to defense what so ever. Can't give up bankrolling the snot out of the defense contractors on taxpayer dime.

Progressive ideology, controlling and central power on a grand scale
Conservative ideology, Let the people deal with it.

Don't let the R&D in front of someones name, fool you. It already has, so it is time to wake up.

This renaming ideologies to a political party, is not looking at the individual.

They confuse you on purpose to keep as many as they can, stupid.

You have a real beef with us, don't you? Just to inform you - I'm a defense contractor and I don't charge the government $40 for anything. As a matter of fact, I have a master's degree and IT certifications, yet I don't make as much as most teachers or cops in my town. You have extrapolated an incident or two and then you apply it across the board. We provide services for a number of areas ranging from help desk to medical.
