I do think it a distinct possibility: perhaps not in my lifetime, but who knows? Certainly plenty of conservative African-Americans around (more than one would imagine).
Back in the late 60s and early 70s I used to have such conversations with friends about the possibility of having an African-American president within our lifetime (as well as a woman president). I believe the general consensus was 'not in our lifetime, but someday'.
After all, my generation (I am 55) easily recalled the 'White Only" signs outside of restaurants, and when I would take the bus the African-Americans would have to sit in the back, while I, lily white, sat in the front (unless it was too crowded; if too many white people were on the bus, the white children would be sent to the back so the white adults could sit; generally, if a white child was sent to the back of the bus, an African-American had to give up his or her seat and stand).
Anyway, when I was young it was difficult to imagine an African-American being elected president anytime soon. Society is moving on.
I sometimes wonder how long until we have an openly gay president. Again, I doubt in my lifetime, but who knows?
Not trolling etc. Serious question. Just my wonder for the morning.
We don't care the color of the candidates skin. The BEST CANDIDATE will win the nomination based on the issues.
Only the Democrats are stuck on identity politics (first black this, first woman that, first hispanic this)
