John Merline makes the jump from AOL to Investors Business Daily with this look at a campaign promise from Barack Obama that has gone not only unfulfilled but unacknowledged. On Tax Day, Obama promised during the campaign, taxpayers would soon be able to do their own taxes in just five minutes with a simplified form. More than two years later, following a Congress which his own party entirely controlled, not only has that not come to pass, but Obama hasn’t even attempted to fulfill that pledge:
IMO, we already have that for the 40 million people mentioned in the article. If it takes you 7 hours to fill out the 1040EZ form, you must be brain dead.
For the average person who has one job and minimal deductions, doing your taxes isn't a big deal- I do mine using online software, and fininshed in less than an hour, including state and federal returns, and filling out the archiving info. There will always be people for whom it'll be a bigger deal, such as those with investment properties, stock sales, etc., but for the average American, it's not rocket science.
Isn't it kind of surprising that nobody has started a thread to count up the promises made by Presidents that never came to pass? (And I wonder why I have the potentially strange idea floating around in my mind that President Obama wouldn't be the only member of that club!)
