Before I clicked on this thread I said to myself that this is going to be some idiotic referendum on either Obama or Bush, rather than a legitimate poll. But I clicked on it anyway. I suppose I had to find out for myself. Waaayyy too much of this website is nothing more than a moronic lib vs con cryfest, so guessing the thread's real content wasn't too difficult.
Anyhow, I think I'll head over to the Great Debates folder. It might have something worthwhile. I hope there's not a thread titled, Which Is The Worst Planet, Mars or Venus? Ahh heck, I'd probably click on it anyway, just to see if it were legitimate.
Their attitudes toward slaves may have been personal moral failings by today's standards but that, in and of itself, had no impact on their performances as presidents.
IMO yes it make him one of the worse presidents because it has and still has impact on the way people think today. Not only Thom. Jeff view on slavery but his theory on blacks being inferior to other races and that still carries to some people today.

If you think that every President that was complacent in Slavery was one of "the worse Presidents", then that would include all Presidents from 1776 to 1863.
Many of the founding fathers may have wanted to end slavery, but were happy to let it stand as it was.

it would not include all because all of them didn't have slaves. IMO I named thom jeff. because of slave view and view on blacks being inferior.

Whats the difference between owning slaves, and condoning the ownership of slaves?
To me, there is no difference.
This is one of the reasons why I don't see the south as being to blame for the civil war. The government said slaves were legal, and every President and congress up to that time was to blame for that view.
There were ways to end slavery without a war, but that would have meant there would have been a lot of money to be spent, with little to gain from it other than righting the "moral" compass of the nation.

You are way off if you really believe that what Thomas Jefferson thought about slavery still has an impact on people today or that it affected what kind of president he was. No one single human has that kind of power over people.
