What would you like to see?
1-as little involvement in my life as possible. Social issues for the most part should not be govenment issues and if they are, they should be state mandated, not federally.

2-balance the budget as soon as possible, keep inflation in tact and create jobs, real jobs, not make believe ones.

3-involve us in as little as possible. We can not become isolationists but we do not need to be the world police either and we can not change the thinking of people who have been doing things the same way since before the days of Christ.

In otherwords, I want to see a patriotic country, one where we can practice the religion we want, live the way we want and open the eyes to those who have thiers closed. You know who you are and most of you are not conservatives.

It because nobody posted for over 10 hrs or so. That's why I posted that. Clearly it had nothing with one conservative speaking up for others since immediately after, people posted.

In 1820 corporations were nothing like they are today, I would love to go back to our original charters.

My core belief is in a smaller federal government than we have today. Just a few of the things I support:

National Social Issues
- get out of people's lives
- no mix of religion and government
- decriminalize marijuana and reduce the law enforcement related to it
- marriage is not a federal issue (that means taxation differences relate to marriage must go away)
- abortion is simply a crime against humanity. Any fetus created through legal voluntary activity should be protected. Fetuses that are the result of a crime (rape, incest) are not protected.
- attempts to modify social behavior through taxation must be ended (also an economic issue)
- act as forcefully as possible to eliminate race-specific policies; eliminate affirmative action everywhere; it is time for everyone to quit acting like a victim when things don't go their way

national economic issues
- radical simplification of the tax code. Eliminate all of today's common deductions and exemptions. Buy a house because you want one and can afford it WITHOUT A TAX DEDUCTION. No reason you should get a tax deduction because you have kids. Tax collections will rise by eliminating loopholes and reducing cheating. No allowance for deduction of state taxes from federal taxes. If you live in NJ or CA no reason for the rest of the US to give you a break because your government taxes you a lot.
- increase the percentage of taxpayers that pay some federal tax from today's 50% to 80%. It is symbolic for a low income person to pay $100 of income tax, but they should contribute to the system they benefit from.
- end market distorting government interference in products. Farm subsidies, oil drilling incentives, tobacco protection, etc. must end.
- protect legal residents of the USA from job losses due to illegal immigrants; make it more difficult to employ illegals without getting caught
- next time let GM and Chrysler fail if necessary. No industry should EVER expect to be rescued by the government
- prosecute (and write new laws if necessary) executives that commit financial crimes

foreign policy
- minimize meddling in the affairs of other countries that do not threaten us. Let them crumble and their people suffer if necessary at times. We shouldn't be a world policeman nor a world saviour. We can always help with disasters, but trying to bring American values to Yemen is waste of US resources.
- act more forcefully when necessary to protect US interests for trade and jobs. Americans need to be weaned off our addiction to cheap goods so we can prevent China from making everything we buy.

Oh - I don't claim to speak for any other conservatives. Just me.

The Top 1% of Earners Paid 38.02% of Federal Individual Income Taxes in 2008

You probably hear people spouting off these types of stats all the time:

"The top 1% of income earners in the United States pay XX% of the taxes"

I've heard this statement come out of a person's mouth many times over the course of my lifetime. Some people will claim that "rich" people pay 50% of all individual income taxes in the country, while others will go as high as 60, 70, 80 or even 90%!

What is the truth?

What better place to go to find out the answer than the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). Taxfoundation.org has developed a couple of easy-to-follow charts based on the data provided by the IRS - I have provided a link to Taxfoundation.org below.

According to the IRS, the "income split point" for somebody to be included in the top 1% of all taxpayers (by income) was $380,354 in 2008 (the last year where data is available).

So, if you reported Positive Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $380,354 or over, then you were in the top 1% of all taxpayers in the United States in 2008.........

Anyone who willingly labels themselves conservative or liberal is more concerned with bashing the other side than having an intelligent conversation.

Take this thread - instead of discussing issues, you have done nothing but bash conservatives for not replying as much as you want them to. Talk about a shameful way to approach politics.

This thread is funny. There is post after post of self-proclaimed conservatives stating on social issues" "This is none of the government's business". Then there is post after post of liberals stating, "Conservatives want to punish anyone not like them."

You would think this thread would be encouraging to liberals, but instead many cling to their favorite prejudices...

What do I as a Real Conservative -- or what I call Classical Liberal -- want? Here's a start:

- Eliminate superfluous government programmes and focus on provision of Public Goods (that is, non-rival non-excludable services such as street lights, defense, public safety).

- Return to the original Enlightenment principles: eg. upholding Natural Law. Quit making concessions to crazy strychnine-drinking fundamentalists or Muzzie wifebeaters.

- Let businesses fail.

- Let individuals fail.

- Protect property rights.

- Quit preventing gays from getting married. Quit using public money to endorse their lifestyle.

- Quit trying to prevent me from defending myself, or else.
