The elites from both parties are beginning to sweat because the People are finally starting to pay attention.

Should we continue status quo in Washington (run away spending) or should Washington begin to pay attention to the People like the Founders wanted?

Quote:
Revenue flows from the taxpayer to the government via taxes and fees. This revenue is fungible and used by the government to fund it's operations. Unfortunately much of that money is doled out in the form of tax breaks, subsidies, bailouts, and stimuli. The recipients (business, unions, etc.) repay their benefactors (our elected representatives) with campaign contributions. It's a sweet deal — except for the taxpayer who is funding the entire shell game. The Washington elite are arrogant, self-serving and insulated. They are pigs feeding at the trough of taxpayer dollars. The more we feed them the bigger government grows, and the more they waste our money to insure the only thing that matters to them - reelection.

Is your question is rhetorical?

Look at the debt record. You can see it has steadily risen since Reagan was in office when taxes began to go down on investment income.

Do we blame on group to feel better? Or do we get on with the realities at hand?

Liberals and phony conservatives are to blame for our current mess. That is the truth.

I'm scared too. A bunch of ideological right-wingers are holding the US economy hostage. That's scary.

Until the market takes a huge dump I won't be worried, if that happens tomorrow or Friday then its time to be scared. Quite a few people already know that we won't default.

Not only ideological, but lunatics. Usually when offer hostage takers what they want the accept. Obama offered them what they wanted, and they said no. Lunatics.

It's all politics. The tea party doesn't care about deficits or debt, they care about defeating Obama. I would put money down that these jokes would be lining up to vote for this if it was a Republican president. Sick people.

So a balanced budget is lunacy?

Eliminating government waste is lunacy?

Suggesting that Americans actually be reasonable is lunacy?

Obama never offered anything that ANYONE wanted. His own proposal was rejected 97-0 in the Democrat controlled senate.
All we would have to do is freeze government spending ant last year's level and then cut 1% for 6 years to reach a balanced budget. How hard is it to do that? Apparently in Washington it is impossible.
Part of the problem is the way congress does budgeting. In 1974 the (Democrat-controlled) congress created the Congressional Budget Office, which is often touted as non-partison. However, the rules they operate under were crafted by the Democrats and one of those rules is Baseline Budgeting. Baseline Budgeting makes the assumption that each year government spending increases and any increase lower than the forcast increase is considered a cut. So if Republicans only increase something by 2% instead of the expected 5% the Democrats run to the nearest camera and scream about draconian cuts. That's why we never get the budget under control.
Briefly, in the Clinton years, the Republican-controlled congress gave Clinton a lineitem veto which he used to cut lots of pork out of the budget bills he was sent. Unfortunately his onw party challenged the constitutionality of the law and it was removed. A lineitem veto would go a long way to cutting out hte waste in government and would make it harder for members of congress to use pork to buy votes.

I understand Capitol Hill is getting swamped with angry calls.
