Should we just keep all entitlements the way they are and let anarchy eventualy unfold? Keep in mind that we could balance the budget if we taxed the rich at 100% (slavery) and we cut the military 100%, which some liberals have actually suggested.

Any solutions, or just blame?

Get it from Soros and all the Hollywood jackholes like Michael Moore, Streisand and Penn. Let's take all their money.

Military Spending is 19.6% of the total budget and 3.6% of the GDP

Year: 2011
GDP: $14,200 Billion
Total Tax Receipts: $2,173 Billion
Total Spending: $3,834 Billion
Total Military Spending: $929 Billion

Military Spending is 24.2% of the total budget and 6.5% of the GDP.

Comparing the numbers...
GDP has grown by 9.6% (+$1,250 Billion)
Tax receipts has reduced by about 15% (-$356 Billion)
Spending has increased by 62% (+$1,468 Billion)
Military Spending has increased by 100% (+464 Billion)

Nearly a third of total spending increase is due to spending on military.
Well I linked to my numbers. It would be nice if you'd link to yours. Mine came from GPO.gov and those numbers differ from where ever you got yours.

Either way you left out welfare spending which is still a hefty 56% of the budget. You'll be lucky if more of the budget is taken up by the military and it looks like a smaller % is taken up by welfare.

I'm willing to cut the military but for every $1 you cut from it, $2.5 has to be cut from welfare. After all your security is exactly as important as your health.

Sorry, I should have done that: Link. BTW, I also forgot to mention that every amount is in 2011 dollars to allow such comparisons.

I was responding to a post that was dealing exclusively with military spending. If you want me to discuss welfare spending, please provide a list of such welfare programs that you would like to discuss.

Considering the debt doubled under Bush while he cut taxes and borrowed money to wage wars it's not really a surprise he gets a bad rap.

What would I do? Cut spending, cut military, bring troops home, close the ridiculous corporate tax loop holes, and raise taxes.

It's not rocket science.

Yeah, now you're getting the idea.

Willie Sutton was a famous bank robber, which is similar to the federal government in practice.

Again, if you taxed the rich 100% (slavery) it would only generate between $900 billion and $1.1 trillion- we would still have deficits with all those new slaves.

Great ideas.

I think that a flat tax and a VAT tax would certainly help, however, it must be accompanied by constraints in spending.

A cub reporter, asks the famous bank robber: "why do you rob banks?
Sutton is famously (but incorrectly) known for answering: "because that's where the money is."

How much will a tax on each share of stock traded cost you, do you know?
